    Joyride 2012 Women's Weekend!

The rumours are true - Joyride has officially announced the dates for the 2012 Women's Weekend: February 4th and 5th. Stay tuned for more details...

If you're paying attention, that's a Saturday and Sunday (not Friday and Saturday like last year). Due to popular demand and some sweet sponsorship, I've heard that the park will actually be open exclusively for women both mornings!

For those who want a rundown of last year's event, check here.

It's bigger and better - I'm very excited!

When she says "exclusively", keep in mind that spouses and/or kids are still allowed in the building (though it's not a daycare). However, if you're sporting a Y chromosome, your riding opportunities will be limited.
Please enjoy seeing this terrible collection of me - something wonderful is about to happy.

That's great. I know some women in the SHCC have been discussing this.
I'll post it on our forum for them.

VBDiva is busy coaching all that weekend so can't get her out again. Can't even bring Gabi to watch a bit again as it's all home games. If it was a week later.

I had a great time regardless last year. However I have a broomball tournament the next weekend and then I leave for holidays. I am not taking the chance this year as having two fractured ribs is pain I do not want to experience again . Plus it put a damper on my holidays tooo. So as much as I would like to attend I will be passing.

It's funny, on rides I seem to be the one who carries the most essential supplies in my pack. Someone always needs an obsure item and I dig into my camelback and produce: extra socks, gloves, bandages, antiseptic, plastic bags, toilet paper, pens and odd tools etc You name it...my camel back=purse on the trail.

I'm sure Denmark is a nice place, but I can also see why Sandrenseren might be a little uptight and frustrated seeing as how here in Canada we have a huge inventory of kickass mountain bike trails and large numbers of kickass women riders enjoying those trails, not to mention winning world championships and/or world championship medals in both XC and DH. Canada FTW.

Have a great weekend at Joyride ladies!

I went to Joyride on monday for the first time with my 10 year old son. We both had so much fun, we didn't want to leave.. I haven't riden ramps in 20 years, but had a blast, and things started coming back to me. Wish my wife could have joined us, but she is 8 months pregnant right now. There was a three year old there shreding on a run bike. So rad!!

Wow - the list of sponsors is huge! The Canadian Cycling Association and the Ontario Cycling Association are major sponsors. The list also includes:
    IMBA Canada
    Norco
    Specialized
    Chico Racing
    Powerbar
    Trek Bike Store
    POC helmets and armour
    GP8 Sportwater
    4Print.ca
    Cyclepath Markham
    Clif Bar
    Sacred Rides
    Swigg
    Eco-Race

    Golly!
And, if you pre-register, you get a swank Women's weekend T-shirt (limited quantities).
Can't wait! Joyride has really stepped it up this year! Great to see such fabulous support of something that was pretty grassroots (but still awesome) last year.

I was reminded that I will not be "baby sitting" this weekend. Rather, I will be "parenting". Ah, the nuances of being a Dad!

Actually, Mr. Monster will not be there "parenting" on Sunday, as he has an OCA thingy. I'll just be wandering around with the boy.

Just a reminder - the park is closed to men (and boys) until noon all weekend.

So much fun! I mostly stayed on the pumptracks between feeding the boy (the rebuilt one is AWESOME), but you could tell people were having a great time in every part of the park. Amazing to see so many beginners out, and incredible to see the progression. I heard lots of people commenting on how great it was to have only women in the park, and that it made for an encouraging environment in which they tried things they wouldn't have tried otherwise. Can't wait to head back tomorrow. Also - SO MUCH SWAG!!! Thanks to all the sponsors for being so supportive! And extra thanks to Joyride for making the second annual weekend bigger and better than the first!!!

It was a great morning! Joyride was thoroughly shredded in a polite and orderly manner!

"Parenting" went well though the boy is such a lady killer that he caused several near misses.

I was going to take tons of pics but somehow this was the only one I had time to snap...

Can someone please refresh my memory....Is there a water fountain at Joyride? Or do I need to bring my own?

Am very much looking forward to tomorrow! I can't wait to play in the pumptracks, make some new friends and squash my new fear of riding skinnies (brought on by a couple of very painful, face-first crashes).

I got more of a chance to circulate yesterday, as I was on boy duty. The ladies back for a second day were pretty sore from Saturday's exertions, but still having an awesome time. Yet more celebrity coaches out, including our very own swabag (on the Specialized skinnies - ha! Norco XC loop coaching next year??). Mike Garrigan was talking the ladies into doing some pretty awesome launches into the foam pit and the Trek ladies were helping out all over the park. Eric Favot was getting the ladies to totally shred in the vert park.

I'm a bit biased, but this is one of my favourite photos from the weekend:

That was such a fun weekend. Highlights include:

    - bunnyhopping with 2WD
    - hanging with the monsters and theo
    - seeing racergurl back at it!!!
    - having the park all to ourselves!
    - being coached by the amazing swabag (so... do you do O-Cups?)
    - jumping for hours and hours...

Speaking of jumping, how is it that it makes you feel like a kid while you're doing it and a senior citizen the next day. I am so incredibly sore.

I really enjoyed helping out yesterday,

Nice to see some familiar faces in February, and meeting some new people.

I`d come back again for sure,
