    First Ride of '08 !!!!!

Went for a nice 3 hour ride today with some trail cleaning tossed in here and there with my cousin at Turkey Point. Nice day and the trails are drying out nicely, not much snow left at all, only a few odd patches here and there.
With some more trail work (like packing in a saw to the problem areas) the trails will be in great shape for riding this year. Anyone for bikes and beaching??? hahaha

    Its me!!!!!

    Aw, sorry man
This is really gonna hurt all your feelings after you hear this.........
I only work 3 days a week, which means at least 4 days for riding per week.
3 days/12 hours a day, 36 hours a week. The other 4 hours a week pay for themselves with the gas money I'm not burning by going 45 min to work.
sorry man, I'll stop showing off now hahahaha.
What sucks for me is that I'm going in for surgery in a week and a half, so I'll be off of riding until May which sucks, so I'd better get it in now.

    If I could work 3/12s I would.
Good luck with the surgery Eric.
    Recover soon.

    Is your work hiring?

Nice pics, its finally nice weather and Metallica always helps dull the winter pain.

Wow! That trail is in much better condition than what I was riding today. Where are these Turkey Point trails? How far from Kitchener?
    Cheers,

From Kitchener its about an hour and twenty min or so. Just mapquest the town of Turkey Point. The trails are in good shape because they are all right off the lake and the soil is very sandy. Not crazy sand that you can't ride through, more like Hardwood Hills sand when its very dry.

They start from the park but are mostly on crown land. The best starting point is the Fish Hatchery Station just before the park..... lots of parking and at a central trail-hub.

There is going to be a group ride there on Sunday, weather permitting, if your interested send me a PM and I'll get you the details.

Does the 3 hours ride have you covering the same trails or is there enough trails for 3 hours out without going over the same stuff? I am in the area and never ridden there and am thinking of checking it out.

I would have been down for that group ride for sure but I ended up having to work all weekend. 11 hour shift today, wasted such a breautiful day. Weather forecast looks good so hopefully I will get a lot of riding in in the next couple weeks before I go to Moab How was the group ride?
    Cheers,

    Seb

It was a 3 hour ride/trail clean up.

If you ride ALL the trails down there you could probably spend about 2.5 hours, but riding them all also means you would have to ride along the same section a few times (there are a few "lollypop" trails off of the main singletrack)
If your in the area then its worth it for sure, if you know where everything is it should be an awesome ride.

Group ride ended up not happening, too many of the guys had other "commitments" (i.e. wife's b-day, work, etc) so I just did a nice short solo ride to see how the trails are coming along. Good news is that the snow is all gone now in the sections I rode
I'm sure we will have more rides there this year, I'll let you know when they are happening.

Sucks that your group ride didn't work out but at least you got out. Keep me posted on future rides, me and my brother have been looking to get down there for a ride for a while now.
    Cheers,
