Dufferin County Forest Trail ride on Sunday-all welcome! (aka Mansfield)

Seems to be some interest from our group as well as others, so here we go. For anyone interested in joining in there will be a group ride at Dufferin forest on Sunday Oct 27th starting at 12 noon. Like I mentioned in a previous thread, we will be riding almost all the trails in DF which should work out to 28km (99.5% single track). The pace will be quite relaxed and I would guess we will be out for 3-4 hours (bring a snack) depending on the group size and pace. We will be stopping often to keep the group together so no one is left behind so the ride may take awhile and that's ok. Those who know the loop can take turns leading and sweeping.

For those who have never been there, the trails are moderately challenging: lots of ups and downs with some sustained climbing. I find the loop quite a work out for its length as you never seem to get a break. I would say a med to upper intermediate ride. Harder than Albion Hills, easier than Kolapore or 3 stages.

Rain is in the forecast all week which doesn't concern us much as the trails have excellent drainage (ie a big sandbox) and we are not concerned about trail damage because the ride will actually benefit the trails, mulching the leaf cover into the thin layer of soil making it better. We will be out there unless it is absolutely pouring. Drizzle doesn't bother us. (right TT?)

So feel free to join in, bring a change of clothes as if it is not pouring rain we can all share a beverage together afterwards.

We will be meeting in the main parking lot on the west side of Airport Road at the top of the hill, north of Mansfield and north of the Mansfield Outdoor Centre (which is across from the Mansfield ski resort).

If you need any more info, post here and I'll answer any questions.
Feel free to comment and add in anything that I've missed.
    See you out there!

the mansfield outdoor center is only open to special events. ie: epic 8, homage to ice..etc
but about 1 km north on airport rd is the dufferin forest on the east side which is open year round to the public.
there is about 30 km or more of single track in there. also joins up with trails in the simcoe forest and the outdoor center which would add considerably more trail.
Sundays ride is taking part in dufferin forest.
if you are joining, when you turn off the road follow the drive way straight in ,not the one to the right.
hope to see some mtbr members come out and enjoy this late season ride.

Hey Morkys, Tried to upload a few pics but I'm not too MTBR savvy with that stuff and just got frustrated. The pictures wouldn't give you a great idea anyway. Right now the it is basically a kaleidoscope of red, yellow and orange with a single track going through it. The trail is mostly through hardwood with some pine sections. It continuously changes the whole ride. Nothing super technical, some great flow, some tight and lots of up and down with a few tougher climbs, but nothing too sustained. We just plan on a poke around enjoying the fall colours (some on the trees but mostly on the ground!) Hope to see you there.

So far so good. Calling for a break in weather &
30 % cance of rain later afternoon.
    ( that's 70% chance it won't )
Mansfield didn't get the snow yesterday
And Mansfield drains well.wet leaves maybe but puddles & mud unlikely.
It's fall riding , enjoy it while you got it. You'll be snow shoeing soon enough.
    The ride is still on.

I live in Mansfield so here is the actual current weather report, my walkways and deck are dry, it's been sun and cloudy, no sign of rain or snow. Currently 5 Degrees. 10:30. The trails will be perfectly fine. Add a layer and come out for the ride, it's only going to get worse before it gets better so enjoy the rides that are left.

Our big group met in the parking lot. Our skills were first tested on Bernie's loops. Lot's of fun on the tight turns, skinnies, teeter totter, and logovers

The trails were diverse and the weather was perfect!

I rode in here as well yesterday but family dinner meant I had to ride earlier than the group ride, would have loved to join you! I got back to the parking lot just as the ride was heading out at 12:30, I think I may have held you guys up for a minute as I was coming back in Bernie's Loops, potentially the wrong way. Sorry for that, I was re-tracing my steps back to the parking lot as I had never ridden in there before. Trails were amazing and I hope to get out there again soon!

    no problem
there is no wrong way in there.
we all hit Bernies loop on the way out and on the way back as well.
definately the trails were in great shape considering the weather some areas experienced the day before

Thanks to all that came out on Sunday! We had 19 riders and one hiker (me) out for the afternoon. The weather turned out fantastic and trail conditions were great. It was nice to have some new riders out on the trails and show them what is out there. If anyone needs directions or info, feel free to contact me or other TVG members. I'll keep updating as things progress with the county as having members of the MTB community at the meetings would be helpful. Thanks for your support.
