cold and snow + day off = bike project

So the temperature got up to 4 degrees here in Delhi yesterday, which was also my day off, so I decided to venture out into the garage for a bike related project!
Turned out as good as I had hoped.

    The Polished Avalanche :D

Yeah but there is still some more polishing to do, then I'm going to have to find some nice GT frame decals.
I'll have to post up some more pics once its all put together.

Doesn't look good for finding decals (see other thread) but don't fret, it doesn't NEED them.

Now shave off that silly hanger and get an Eccentric hub...something that shiny should be clean and free of french dangly bits!

Bikes with derailleurs are like fast singlespeeds.

That frame also looks gorgeous. Pure chromey goodness.

    Great job on the frame.

I think I still have a vintage 1990 era Zaskar decal set kicking around some where. Yellow and blue if I remember correctly.

    Great job!

Should we expect to see it listed again or is it shiny and new looking enough that you'll keep it?

    I agree with N.G.H.

Remove the der.hanger and the extra cable stops for a really clean look, singlespeeds are lighter and way faster!!

The frame really does look beautiful polished. It's tempting to try and do it on my 2003 Avalanche 3.0. I've outgrown it, so sadly I wouldn't be able to ride it but, It could make for a nice wall ornament in a bike shop.

It looks nice, but you kinda have the same bike twice. How will you choose which one you will ride?

Yeah its kinda funny how it worked out like that. I bought the first Avalanche in 2003 and it was a great bike over the years so I went with another in 2008 (after I was a little unsatisfied with my Trek). The fit and geometry are almost identical, but I'm sure the "flip a coin" solution will work for me.

well the 03' can be more of a training bike and the new guy can be ur racer and group ride bike to leave everyone behind ya. What ever did happen to the trek? Ive been confused seeing your pictures without it.

Ah the Trek. It was my first "real" FS bike (besides a Klein Mantra way back in the day) and while I enjoyed it I found it to be rather cushy and didn't have the snap of the old hardtails. So I sold the trek and built up a super-Avalanche to get back to the hardtails. Just a personal preference thing really. Maybe someday I'll step into the FS market again but with something a little more "hardtail-ish". I've always like the Giant NRS series because they were on the firm side, I'd be more into something like that, but for now its a hardtail for me.
