    Aluminum Frame Mods

    Not MTB related but...

I have an aluminum track frame that I wanted to add bottle cage mounts and cable routing to. Does anyone know of an aluminum frame builder within/around the GTA?

I expect that any shop that does aluminum welding could help you out. I'm on the hunt, myself, for someone in Woodstock.

Is the frame something special, or do you just have it laying around and would prefer it was a road bike?

Bicycle tubes are very thin. Most fab shops don't have experience with tubing so thin. A frame should also go through a heat treat process after welding.

You could pick up a cheap new aluminum road frame for around $100.

For bottle cage mounts look for riv-nuts.

Looks like True North doesn't do aluminum.

    re True North Cycles..

A e-mail or phone call would confirm if they do Aluminum or not

    For OP
As SVM stated - riv-nuts, you can get them thru Aircraft Spruce Canada and look around for rivet style cable stops - Nova Cycles Supply carries them and I'm sure there are other sources - used on carbon frames

After all that if it is a true track frame it will likely be 120mm R hub spacing and lack a derailleur hanger. Some horizontal dropout hangers do exist for dirt jumpers but it still seems like a lot of trouble to go through to have to run an antiquated 5 spd freewheel. Does it at least have a drilled brake bridge?
