Hey guys, realative newb here.. did some singletrack when I was younger and getting back into it now. Moved to Collingwood about a year ago and wanna start riding kolapore and 3-stage. Got my bike and most of my gear at kamikaze in town. Gonna swing back there today and see if they got maps. Any advice for where is good to go for slightly newer guy? So far just been riding some of the off road trails and track in and around Collingwood. Think I'm gonna try going up on the mountain and going along the Bruce if not to kolapore or 3-stage... But kinda worried about gettin lost in those (i've heard its pretty easy to get turned around). Thanks for the advice!
The signage on the trails in Kolapore is good. Shows distance and where the trail leads. I recall seeing a big map at the parking lot (on Grey road 2 and Grey Road 19). I'm not sure if you can still get maps at the convenience store in Ravenna. (Someone will have to confirm that)
Hey boonah. Thanks! I've actually rode Loree 4 or 5 times in the last week and and half. Nice place. Good for beginners like you said. Mostly did that one loop off that dirt service road with a couple small side loops I found. Got turned around the first time I was there and finally came out a couple klicks down the road. Anywhere else like that kickin aaround or are those three the best ones?
Okay, so maybe you can get a little lost. Those are the best that I know of. 3 Stage is my fave but definitely confusing to navigate. Ask around at the bike stores, there might be someone who works there that will ride with you.
Triple 3 Stages is not fun atm on a fatbike. Real deep fresh snow that is extremly slippery.
Tried double track, ski do trails, snow shoed bits, xc skied trails (had real nice tracks in spots, sorry skiers - I went along for about a half k, realised there wouldn't be another trail for a bit so back tracked at that point) and all was very tough. Deep fresh and slick like grease. Did some good slowmotion falls into soft snow when getting too deep.
Average speed was like 3.5 km/h :/
Was great for hiking and appears to be really great right now for snow shoeing or skiing (or sledding for that matter).
Are there many people that ride there in the winter? Is this the norm or do trails get beaten down and firmed up any?
