    xtr m980 chainring

Quick question.... Looking to get the m980 2 x 10....It comes with 26 / 38 rings....Will my shifting still be fine if I change the small ring to 22 or 24? Thanks..

I don't think the bolt pattern on the double crankset will allow you fit the smaller ring. If you want a 22 or 24 granny with a 2x10 then you probably need to get the triple crankset and remove the big ring or replace it with a bashguard.

The 26/38 2x10 is the triple crank using the inside and middle ring positions. The other 2x10 XTR cranks are a dedicated 2x10 setup. That said you should be able to switch to the smaller chain ring but I can't say how the shifting will be.

Thanks for the clarification. So I guess the 26/38 doesn't have quite an ideal chainline for a 2x10 setup, right?

I don't think the chain line will be an issue. The chain line technically is the same as the triple but since it's measured differently between a double and triple, it looks lower ,46.8mm compared to 50mm. The double's chain line is measured to the middle of the space between the 26/38 chainrings and the triple is measured to the middle chainring. However it's the same crank so riding in the 38 (double) or 32 (triple), it's the same chain line.

The issue with using a triple crank for a 2x10 is that putting a 26T chainring in place of a 22T will cause fit issues for some frames. This is currently an issue with the 26/38 XTR setup for some frames. The dedicated 2x10 XTR cranks have better clearance.
