    XTR bottom rear getting tight

Good day... I just spun the two gears in my XTR rear derailler. The bottom one does not spin as freely as the upper one. Can this be flushed and lubed? I know I can buy a $70. rebuild kit that has 2 new gears but is there a less expensive way to get the gear to spin freely??

Thnxs for any tips guys. This site has helped me a lot.

In my experience the top pulley will always spin easier than the bottom, because they are two different pulleys. The top one has about 2mm of play which probably aids in it spinning easier. The bottom one does not have this play, and therefore has a tiny bit more resistance.

As long as its not HARD to turn the pulleys, then you'll be fine. A drop of teflon based lube, or regular dry lube at the pulley bearing will loosen things up as well. (assuming the derailler is clean, if theres visible dirt, grass etc. at the bearing then thats likely your problem)

You need new pulleys when the teeth are worn out, or teeth have broken off.

Very rarely do the bushings/bearings give up before the teeth break.

    cheers,
    Aaron

Thnxs.. Actually both of my pulleys have about the same amount of play. Wonder if the bottom one is worn?
