XT Shadow Plus rear derailleur question

This new product is supposed to reduce/eliminate chain slap. Does this mean that I no longer need to put on my ugly chainstay protector if I installed one of these?

Depends on whether it reduces or eliminates as you wrote...

Shadow will help on the average smaller trail bumps with, but on 2 foot drops or jumps it won't prevent chain slap.

There is a new expensive model that has a "tension clutch" and it does prevent chain slap on most 2 foot drops.

I believe you're speaking about the Shadow+. Are you using this already?

Yes you still need a chainstay protector.

The shadow plus adds tension to the chain below the chainstay, above the chainstay it would be the same and bounce around the same.

I have the new xt shadow plus and still hear noise, for what that's worth, not sure where it's coming from, but the chain is still moving around a little.
