New question here. XO 9spd twist shifter with XT RD?

can I take a new XT RD (came off a 10spd) and use it with an XO twist shifter (9spd bike)?

isn't it the shifter that determines whether 9 or 10 spd compatible?

    thank you.

No. The SRAM and Shimano parts are not compatible in the first place.

The trouble with common sense is it is no longer common

You can't use the X0 shifter, but Sram have made a Shimano compatible version called the Attack, it's not compatible with the new 10 speed stuff.
