    x9 or x7 - 2010

Is there a difference between 2010 x9 and x7 trigger shifters, for 9 speed? I remember reading somewhere that they may be, or is that older years. I don't mean difference by weight, or material...... $30 price difference.

    x9 has zero loss travel?

I do believe both have Zero Loss Travel... I know for certain that the X9 does away with the gear indicator, it's just the two triggers, and at least one of the shifter is metal. I went from X7 to X9 and it just "felt" nicer, but in terms of performance I can't comment as at the same time I went from an X5 long cage rear derailleur to an X9 medium cage.

It seems that the 2010 x7 doesn't have zero loss, but the 2011 models do. How big of an improvement is the zero loss over a non zero loss?

This is correct, and the Zero Loss is worth it...it really does fire off those upshifts noticeably faster.
