    X01 1X11 vs. X0 2X10

How much more difficult is it going to pedal with an 1X11 X01 with say a 28t or 32t front ring and a 10-42 cassette vs an X0 with a 24t/38t front and an 11-36 cassette? I'm not in the best of shape right now, though getting stronger by riding 30-40 miles a week. I rode a Niner Air 9 RDO with a full X0 group on a fairly easy trail today and never came out of the 24t ring. I know I didn't go into the 36t cog, but I came about 2 or 3 away from it (I really didn't pay attention to where it was I just put it where I could pedal). Will an 11 speed be that much more difficult to pedal. The reason I ask is because I'm trying to decide of I want to build a bike with an X0 group, or buy a bike from Niner that has the X01. If I build it myself, by the time I'm done I will probably spend a good $7-900 more vs. buying it pre-built from Niner.

Use the calculator in this link: Sheldon Brown's Bicycle Gear Calculator

I think you'll be surprised at how broad the gear range is with a 10-42 cassette.

    IIRC...a 28T front with a 42T rear is close to a 24T front and 36T rear.

I'm sure you will like it with the X01 with 28 front ring, I have 3 friends running XX1 with 28 front ring & they are not that fit & they are having no trouble.,

Looks like X01 will only be available with a 30T ring, not a 28 like the XX1

But...the spider on the crank looks as if it's the removable spline type, as on some of their other cranks.

Meaning you could stick one of the aftermarket spiderless rings that are cropping up on there.

Are these more 'rebranded' old x0 cranks? I wonder if anyone will be able to confirm that.
