    Will this work?

Sorry if this is a ridiculous question but I'm still learning so bare with me please...

I want to purchase and install a Power Link on my bike, ya know to make chain removal faster. I was thinking about installing a SRAM Powerlink 7/8 Speed.
(here comes the still learning part)

Can a SRAM powerlink be put on a different brand chain(hence I don't know what kind of a chain I have)? Will this powerlink fit my chain? How do I know what speed my bike is (I think it is an 8 speed)?

I am riding a Gary Fisher Mamba in case anyone was wondering.

    Thanks Alot!!!!

Sram powerlinks can be used on any brand of similar chain.
Count the number of cogs on the rear cluster to tell if you have 8 or 9 speed.
Your bike came stock with 8 speed.

    Thanks!

Sram 9 spd powerlink works fine with Shimano 9 spd chain. 8 spd Powerlink may not work with all 8 spd Shimano chains.
