Will my Sram X5 shifter work with XT 772 Rear Derailleur?

I destroyed my Sram X5 rear derailleur today, and am looking for a replacement. I would like to try the Shimano XT RD-M772 Shadow rear derailleur, but am unsure whether it will work with my Sram X5 shifters. Can someone confirm this for me?

    I ride a Giant Talon 29er with a 2X9 drivetrain: 22/32/bash with a 11-34 cassette.

No. Different pull ratio for rears.

No, you need either a SRAM rear mech or a Shimano shifter.

SRAM X9 is perfectly fine. I doubt you would see too much over X-7 or even X-5 RDRs, the new models are are very similar. The RDR is kind of dumb, shifters make more of a difference. Make sure you choose 9 or 10 speed depending on your shifters as they are NOT compatible with each other from a shifter, chain and casette standpoint.

I have been actually wondering about this exact comment. I just got a new bike, it is a rocky mountain soul 29er. It is upgraded pretty well (Reba RLT, XT crankset, avid juicy brakes) but the shifting seems very slow. I thought is was the RDR (I assume that is rear derailer), but it is the shifters? What is on the bike is x4 trigger shifters.

X4 is 8 speed I believe. It could just be an adjustment, such as how close the top jockey wheel is to the the number 1 cog, when in gear 1. If I recall, SRAM states 6mm. If it was far off, it could slow shifting down. In general, the higher level shifters use better materials, bearings vs bushings n 2012 X9 and X0. In 9 speed, X9 and X0 engage as soon as you touch the trigger, X7 and below don't. I believe in 10 speed, X7 gains that as well.

I run Deore shifters 2 versions and LX and Deore Shadow RDR as well as X5 and X7 on a variety of bikes. They all shift real good and crisp, when tuned. I've ridden XT, and while smoother and more crisp, not enough for to trade mine in for the costs. I have never ridden X9 or X0.

As long as it is the 9 speed model and NOT the 10 speed model
