I am interested in the new 2x10 crank offerings from sram and shimano, but I'm not really interested in the rear drive part of the group. I'd like to run a new 2 ring setup, most likely the 44/30 XTR combo, but I want to keep the rest of my current 9 speed group... x.o shifters, x.o rear der, xt front der, xt cassette, xt 9 speed chain.
I'm fairly certain most of this concept will be unaffected by the new chainrings, can anyone speculate that I can adjust my current xt front derailleur to handle a 14 tooth jump from 30 to 44? I've used this front der for a 36/24 combo, so I'm guessing 2 more teeth shouldn't be too big a deal.
And finally, curious if a 9 speed chain will work ok on these new chainrings? I know 10 speed chains will be thinner, but don't know if the rings are actually ramped and pinned in a way that is not optimal for a 9 speed chain.
What say ye?
