    Will a 42T FD shift fine...

    with a 44T ring?

    It Should...

    The difference in diameter is miniscule between a 42T and a 44T ring.

    In my experience f derailleurs are pretty universal and able to shift ring combinations that they weren't designed to.

    I regularly run road double f derailleurs with mtb cranksets and also haven't had any problems using an XTR f derailleur designed for 46/48T rings on a 53T road ring.
