Replacing a chain for the first time and I want to make sure I do things right. Based on what I've been reading it sounds like whenever you join a chain together, you have to use a "new" connecting pin; you can't just pop an old one out and back in after. Shimano and SRAM seem to use different systems, but so far I've got a Shimano SLX HG73 on the way: Shimano SLX HG73 9 Speed Chain | Buy Online | ChainReactionCycles.com
When should I be using Shimano's break-away connector pins? When I join it for the first time? A new one every time I break and rejoin the chain? Is it arbitrary where I can break/join the chain?
