    what is this and how do I fix this?

    heard this noise coming from my crank today and it appears this thing(in the red box appears to be lose) and making nosie from my sram x.7 bb( I think its a 30mm gxp )

    Can I yank it out and leave it that way?

    Is it important?

    That's what keeps your bearings from going too far into your BB shell. They're little clips that snap into a groove on the inside of the BB. I would head to a shop to see if they have any extras and replace it. Those should be quite snug.

    Is this a do-it yourselfer with a bb tool?


    Im pretty knowledgable and built up my entire bike except for my bb (ironically)
