    Truvativ Noir 1.1

I'm building out a new 1x9 drivetrain, and got a new truvativ noir 1.1. Does anyone know if I will need to use a chain guide (like the MRP 1X)?

    Thanks.

It is NOT necessary to use a chain guide if you put a little tension in the chain. I ran a SS crank with no bash guard or jump stop with no chain drop issues.

Since the Noir already has a ring on the outside, you can get a Deda Dog Fang or the equivalent that keep the cahin from falling to the inside. It works for me. I got a lot of chain drops before I installed the Dog Fang - mainly from having it in the 34T cog and hitting bumps. I'm using an X9 short cage derailleur but haven't played with the tension much.
