I thought it was silly when it first came out but after using titanium nitride coated drill bits I changed my mind. I carry a drill chuck on tours which I use for a screwdriver Torx driver and drill. tools | Flickr - Photo Sharing! The coated drills need only 1/10 as much force as regular bits. Parts that are being drilled also stay much cooler it only takes a minute for a part to get too hot to hold. This would be a very easy test to do for those who have the equipment run both types of chain and photograph the heat given off The Basics Of Thermal Imaging Heat Detection FLIR Camera' this will tell you exactly how much power being saved. Studies of bearings also found they can be run dry for short amounts of time always a problem on chains. The very opposite of titanium nitride is titanium which actually cold welds to any other metal increasing friction.
