    Teflon tape a worn spline?

The spline on my now 7 year old RF Deus XC cranks axle is shot so I teflon taped it which seemed to do the trick. Anyone actually done this? Did I just buy another 7 years of use?

I have a bottle of Loctite 640 retaining compound (medium strength), think that'd work? I considered it but figured the forces were too great.

    Wont last unfortunately.

I had mine warrantied by raceface ~ 3 months before they went tits up. Not sure of their status right now, but you could try their warranty department as I bleieve those had a lifetime (or maybe 5 year) warranty....

the retaining compound is worth a shot and better than teflon tape. it is a bandaid solution

Stumble, how did the spline get worn out? I have the cranks on 2 of my bikes, and want to know if this is something I should be looking out for.

They've seen a lot of use in 6-7 years now, a few times I noticed well into a ride that the 8mm fixing bolt had loosened. That probably attributed to it.
The spline play just started out of nowhere the other day, it's play only in the vertical direction in line with the crank arms and very noticeable as a clunk in the top dead center pedal stroke. This is where the wearing stress is applied if you think about it, it won't happen to the twisting force against the spline when the crank arms are parallel to the ground.
There's no obvious wear/cracks visible to the splines though.

FYI: The teflon tape did work great so far, no play at all. I'm going to try the retaining compound next, which solidifies as a plastic and should fill the gap better.

Also I'll put an order in for an SLX double. Unfortunately RF doesn't make a 2x9 crankset with the narrower chainline. Just 2x10 stuff.
