Gs

They only do GS (med) or the SGS (long) cage.

This one is the GS.

Does anyone know what are the main differences between this XTR shadow and XT shadow, apart from the carbon cage and weight?

I don't know the differences but I do know that so far I am happy with my new XT med cage Shadow.

No carbon on XT. The Shadow was almost two ounces lighter than the "regular" XT it replaced. The Shadow tucks in nicely next to the cassette.

I paid $89.95 + shipping. By far the most I have ever spent on a der.

Best wishes,
Terry

Shimano XTR Shadow rear derailleur

Hey there!
Wondering if the 08 Shadow derailleur is compatible with the Shimano XTR dual control shifter/brakes?
Any input would be appreciated.
Cheers!

yes
they recommend rapid rise but it works just fine, if you have rapid rise now the shifting will be opposite

Worth adding though adapted from Jeremy's post...

Tech Question of the Day

Q. Will the XTR M972 work with 2007 XTR Dual Control Shift/Brake levers*?

A. Any of the not-so aged Shimano mountain shifters will operate the 972 rear derailleur (Shadow kind). However Shimano suggests using dual control shifters with rapid rise (low-normal) derailleurs. The dual control shifters were 'ergonomically' optimized to operate with rapid rise.

Dual control shifters can work with a traditional (top-normal) rear derailleur. However they may not operate to their maximum potential.

Well, alright this is the deal for me. For only about WS of 10-15grams, I'd rather not get 'em... I'll pass this on for the time being. Find other ways to shed weight without compromising function as well. Call it, striking the 'happy median' of weight, durability, & reliability.

At the end, I'm one happy biker.
