    stylos noise

Stylos crank on '07 BLT1 makes creaking noise ONLY when one or other pedal (usually but not always the left side) is pointing forward and slightly down. Usually doesn't start until I've ridden 30-60 min., but sometimes right away and sometimes not for 90 min. Makes noise at one definite location, so once per revolution.
Trying to pinpoint, first eliminated suspension pivots and seat tube. Tried grease, anti-seize and plumber's tape on BB cup threads. Then installed new BB (non-drive side bearing was a little rough). Noise still there, same location in stroke.
LBS said "Truvativ's are crap, buy a Race Face instead", but I'd like to think that's wrong and that there's a simple cause (and solution) that I'm not thinking about, other than replacing the crankset. And if I do, maybe an XT, as they seem pretty popular on this forum?
    Thanks for any ideas!

Actually, I've never been able to get them undone. Maybe that's the problem, so will try again with a little heat and wd-40.
    Thanks for the suggestion!
