    Sticky shifter

SRAM XO 9 speed front triple shifter.

When I shift from the smallest to middle chain ring the thumb shifter get stuck forward and does not return. I can easily manually pull it back with my finger. It doesn't seem to be bad cable pull because it still downshifts nice and crisp. Also when shifting from the middle to big ring, it returns just fine, it is only the small to mid-ring shift where it sticks.
    Any ideas?

Could it be a cable kink and housing transition that only manifests when the cable is in the middle ring position?

Considering the cable is obviously 100% positional (versus hydraulics, which are not positional at all), I'd think it's something that occurs when two things are lined up. In other words, maybe the kink is right where the cable leaves or enters a housing and it only affects things at that specific point.
