I am replacing my 1995 XT crank. It has the 5 bolt "compact" chainrings. The crank and rings are pretty well shot. I am also going from 175mm to 170mm cranks. I would like to stick with a square tapper / 5 bolt crank. I have a few new square taper BBs. I also like being able to use a 20t granny with the 5 bolt design. (I also hear a lot of negative stuff about splined BBs).
Problem is, it is near impossible to find such a crank any more. It is also getting difficult to locate rings. Do I need to move on and get the splined 4 bolt cranks with the 22t granny? Or... where can I locate a crank like I want?
