SRAM X9 Type 2 Derailleur with 9 Speed components

I really want to upgrade to the new Type 2 derailleur technology, but do not want to upgrade my entire 9 speed drive train to 10 speed... Currently running SRAM x5 shifters, 9 speed cassette, etc...

So my question is, if I get a 10 speed chain and the SRAM x9 Type 2 derailleur (labeled as 10 speed), will it work with my 9 speed components? I am thinking it would because the shifters determine how much to move the derailleur and with the 1:1 actuation, it should work, but I would like some confirmation before dropping the cash...

    Thanks for the help!

Sorry, but the Type 2 derailleur uses Exact Actuation. It is not compatible with 1:1 Actuation of the 9sp shifters.

As far as I can tell, you can't mix-n-match 9spd shifters with 10spd rear derailleurs.

Dang, thanks. Just curious, isn't 1:1 and Exact actuation the same thing?

Edit: Nevermind, found this.. Exact Actuation | SRAM Road | SRAM Bummer, guess I will either have to wait for a new bike, or bite the bullet and upgrade to 10spd
