sram rocket shifters and shimano components

Ok Im new to building mountain bikes but im giving it a try..

I bought a set of monkey lite bars, scram rocket grip shifters and avid juicy 3 levers and calipers and lines.

These are used items but nice non the less.

My question is the rocket shifters are a 3 x 9 set up, my shimano xt crank is a 3 chainring design and I dont have the rear cassette yet.

Will the rocket shifters work with the 3 chainring fine AND the cassette for the rear could or should I buy a 9 or will a 10 work, I already have a xt 10 cassette.

    Thanks guys in advance.

The rocket shifters should work fine with your front derailleur and crank.
Rocket shifters are designed to work with a Shimano rear derailleur. You need to match the number of gears of the cassette with the number of gears on the shifter - from the sounds of it, a 9 speed. A Shimano or SRAM cassette will work.

Thanks, my front 3 ring is a 44, 34, 22 does that make a difference?

Slash is talking about cage length on the rear derailleur. They come in two or three lengths. You will want the 'long cage' version because you are using 3 rings up front.

Ok dru thanks, does the chainrings I listed sound like they were a 3x10 or 3x9?
OR does that even matter and no matter what the chainrings are they will work
With the 9 speed cassette and long cage deraillure ?
Thanks again, sure helps me a lot..

I know nothing of the 10 sp. stuff except that the rings are (suppossedly) skinner than 9. Being you are running 9 speed shifters and cassette your rings on the crank will work just fine.
