SRAM 10 speed help!
Hey everyone.
I'm upgrading my 2009 GT Sanction from a 1x9 to 1x10. Something seems off. The X9 mech that I have seems to locate the swing arm really high. It is touching the cassette without the chain on or tension. Also the upper pulley seems really far forward. Did I buy the wrong mech? Or is it not compatable with my hanger?
Any help would be appreciated.

Best guess is that you don't have the derailleur mounted correctly on the hanger. The derailleur is not sitting on the hanger stop.
Seem to get this one about twice a week lately.

If the B tension tab is behind the stop on the hanger it's fine. That position is common on SRAM mechs when they don't have a chain on them. Once you put the correct length chain on their it will pull it into position and be fine.

You were right. I got the chain on there and everything is working normally once adjusted. I've installed other rear mechs and never had the swingarm go back so far. This particular X9 has a really strong spring in it. It's probably a good thing so it'll reduce chain slap and be the closest thing to a type 2 for me. I found a screaming deal on an OEM 2011 short cage. Thanks!
