    Spacers for Gripshift

I am installing Sachs gripshifters and they come with 2 thin spacers. Do these go in between the shifter/grips? Are they really needed?

    Thanks

    Yes, they are needed.

They go between the twister and the grip. If you check, I'm willing to bet that when you twist the shifter, the outer edge near the grip rotates without any stationary guard to stop it from sticking/binding against the grip. The nylon spacer gives it something smooth and stationary to rotate against vs. a rubber grip. At least that's how my 1997 model twisties were. Maybe, they have been improved since then. I don't know for sure.

    Good luck,

    Chris

    1) Yes.

    2) They are there to put a slick surface between your grips and the shifters which are both somewhat tacky surfaces that theoretically may wear on each other after a period of time. So long as you have a gap, you probably could leave them off with no problems. Many people likely do leave them out. I always use them and never notice any adverse effects from doing so.

Great! Thanks for the replies. It sounds like it's a good idea to use them, so I will.
