    SLX-rear derailleur and Dura-Ace Shifters

    Dear all,

I plan to update my Surly Crosschecks drivetrain. As I am very happy with my mountainbikes SLX components, I´d like to get a 9-speed SLX rear derailleur and a SLX crank (FC-M660). I would prefer to use downtube shifters; the rear derailleur should work with dura ace DT shifters (9 speed), shouldn´t it? Would it be possible to get rid of the granny ring of the crank and use a 2-speed front derailleur with the dura ace shifter?

    thanks

    Björn

Yes, the SLX rear derailleur and the Dura Ace shifters will play well togther.

As for the cranks, I think you'll be better served if you use a road crank on the Cross Check. I think the chainline will be too far outboard if you turn a SLX into a double using the middle/big rings. I'd get a compact road crank instead.

Yes, works fine. May need to add a barrel adjuster to the system.

Agree with Nater about crankset chainline.

The trouble with common sense is it is no longer common

Thanks, I guess I will really go with the new 105 compact crank.

    Best,
