    Shimano XT RD-M750

    Snapped it today.
Going by the model #, do I even need to worry about hi normal etc etc.?
Simply match the part # and they will be the same?

RD-M770 would be the current low normal (rapid rise) model, the only other thing to match is the GS or SGS cage length.

Would the M772 Shadow GS/SGS work too? I can move down to a shorter cage, as I run w/o the big ring...

Shadow variants are technically cross-compatible (and are always top-normal). The return spring is a bit stronger. What type of shifter do you use?

Now you've opened the Rapid Rise high and low normal can of worms, the 750 was low normal (rapid rise) so if you use the Shadow or standard 771 derailleur your gear sequence at the shifter will be reversed.

True, and I think Shadow does go best with conventional RapidFire Plus shifters (as opposed to dual-control or twist).

I see this guy has a used XTR RapidRise-style for $50, if RapidRise is desired: http://classifieds.mtbr.com/showprod...t=32166&cat=13

I have a lightly-used XTR RD-M972 SGS I'm trying to sell (long-cage Shadow, therefore top-normal), PM if interested.
