    Shimano/Sram 10 speed compatibility

Looking to go 10 speed in the near future, and was curious to the compatibility of the 2 systems.

    i see here: http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/...cname=Mountain

...and in many other complete bikes specialized, along with many other mfg's are spec'ing bikes with sram controls/mech's and shimano cassettes.

Until recently, my understanding was mixing the 2 systems would not work.

I love my sram triggers/rear der and do not want to swap over to shimano, but do not want to drop $300 for an 11-36 xx cassette. If my deductions are correct, i can run a shimano cassette with sram chain without worry?

    Any insight?

    Thx

This has been asked a few times.

Even though they are mixing Sram controls with Shimano cassettes, a Sram chain is not being used. They are using either a Shimano chain, or a KMC chain (which BTW manufacturers the chains for Shimano).

The Shimano cassette cogs are a tad thicker than the Sram cassette cogs, so a Sram chain won't engage the cassette properly.

Stick with either the KMC chain or the Shimano chain.

Those are my intentions as well MTB, so much so that I have a full XX kit with the exception of a XT cassette. Spoke to the Sram rep yesterday at a local event and he said no worries. I will give you real world feedback as my frame is due in first of the week.

SRAM makes other much lower cost 10-sp cassettes than the XX.

Sram 10sp chain works great w/Shimano 10sp Dynasys...
