shimano FC-M410 crank w/ suntour xcm bb?

    Hi,
anyone know if a square taper shimano FC-M410 alivio crankset 175mm 42-32-22, 8speed, will fit this "square type" suntour xcm bottom bracket (see link) model: BB8-XCM-SQS-122-CBT
    http://www.srsuntour-cycling.com/SID...tail&tnid=2526

suntour "square type"= shimano "square taper"?

    thanks!

Yeah it will, but iirc that Alivio chainset recommends a 113mm bb not a 122mm.

thank you. not sure why shimano doesn't put recommended bb sizing on their product info page, (see link below) the spec area is all blanked out. maybe avail on vpn for dealers only or employees.

    thanks everyone!
Nice, looks like I won't have to buy a bb, the stock suntour will fit the shimano crank. I will save that pdf, though I use sumatra pdf and not adobe reader (it's rubbish), but i digress but this is not a tech forum!

The document I linked shows you need a 113mm spindle, so make sure the Suntour is 113mm, not 122mm

yep, I stand corrected, FC-M410 spec'd for 113, and that bb on my bikes spec sheet is 122 (it comes in 113 as well) looks like it won't work. not a biggie, bb cost like $15.
what happens if you get that wrong? will it break b/c its too long in this case? 9mm diference seems minimal.
    thanks for clarifying

With a 113 BB, your chainline is 50mm (look at Sheldon Brown if you don't know what chainline is) which is already not the ideal 47.5mm. You will push it out even further to 54.5mm which your front derailleur may not be able to handle and even if it could your shifting will suffer and you create excessive side load on your chain which will wear it out prematurely and might lead to failure.

got it, Sheldon explains all once again. already have enough shifting issues with this 09 gf advance, by the book is crtical here. this alivio crank (bike came w/alivio r.derailleur altus f.) is just a stop gap until i can afford the sram x.9 upgrade kit from price point (or some place else), which won't be for a while. cheers
