    Shimano Deore ST-M590

What do you think of these. I currently have Shimano Deore RapidFire SL. I am looking to upgrade the shifters and derailleurs however I do not want to spend a small fortune on them. I need something that is compatible with the V-Brakes/Mechanical Disks and I like the idea of being able to look at the bars and see what gears I am in.

The only downside to those are that if you break one, you have to replace both at the same time. And those are not an upgrade over what you have.

If you want an upgrade, I suggest this route.

    SLX Rapid fires.

    Avid Speed Dial 7 levers.

Yeah, can't really see why anyone is attracted to "combo" setups.

XT shifters aren't that much more, and can easily be modded for multi-release (shift either 1 or 2 gears, ala XTR). So you could have your gear window and still have the "premium" double-shift capability.

Do spend a lot of time in more than one chainring, or is the front derailleur defective? If not, consider keeping the front der and/or shifter? Maybe spend the extra $$ on XT/X9 rear der.

Are you looking for brakes too?
