shimano deore LX... is this reversed?

so i've got a deore LX, and its normal position is closest to the wheel (low gear), not the frame.

the standard deore sits closest to the frame (high gear)

is this normal? or do i have some retard LX. so when i put the cable, it goes to a higher gear. i've tried looking around, but to no avail.

What you've got thet is a Rapid Rise or Low Normal rd. Sounds like you want a Top Normal. Shimano makes all their rd's in both variations (except the Shadow, which I'd love to see in Rapid Rise, please).
