    Shimano BB 105 compatibility

Hopefully someone has tried this or may know but can I use a BB-5700(new 105) bottom bracket with an older (last year) 105 crank FC-5600? The BB looks to be the same width and everything but not sure if the spline on the cranks are the same from the new FC5700 vs the FC5600.

    Thanks

The bottom brackets are interchangeable and will be perfectly fine.

If you are using road BB with road crank it maybe ok. But then why asking this on montain board?

That said, some road external BB inner cover (plastic tube) is about 2~3mm shorter than those on montain BB, assuming your frame has 73mm shell. So if you combine road BB with mountain frame, be sure to get a mointain inner cover to avoid premature bearing failure due to contaminants. Then again you may not be able to get that plastic parts alone...

..moderator, you can disable this thread. I'll move it to roadbikereview forum. Apologies.
