    Shifting problem- front derailleur

I just replaced the front derailleur on my gt mountain bike, it had a frozen/sticky derailleur previously. Its shifting great through 1 & 2 great, but does not seem to get enough movement to shift into the #3 sprocket. It had a shimano acer derailleur but now has the alivio derailleur. Any thoughts, cable? Wrong derailleur?

Start with the barrel adjusters. You may just have the cable tension too low.

Do you get a click for the third shift? If not, you just messed up the indexing. Shift into the lowest gear, pull the slack out of the cable, and give it another shot.

You might also have the high limit screw in too far.

As andrew said, but look at the limit screw first. Once its set right then look for the cable adjustment.
