    Shifter Question

I have a pair of 03 XTR shifters and they are very strange and I would rather replace them to a more conventional functionality. The deraileurs are all XTR. My options seem to be upgrade to a newer model XTR or the SRAM X.9 triggers (which Ive heard good things about). The XTRs are about $170, while I can find the X.9s for around $60.
    Question:
Are these comparable, and is it a bad idea to run SRAM shifters with XTR deraileurs?

X-series SRAM shifters will NOT work with Shimano derailleurs, or vice-versa (1:1 vs 1:2 ratio). If you want to go X-series, shifters and RD must both be X-series.

SRAM does make 2:1 Shimano-compatible shifters (Attack series, for instance), but they would be a step down from XTR.

    Cheers, Chris
