    Save me $50...

I have a 31.8mm front derailleur clamp, and would like to use it for a bike I'm building, however the bike specs call for a 35mm front der clamp. I attached the 31.8 and it looks okay (the very edges of the clamp don't exactly approximate eachother, but it seems to be stable when tightened down). Is there a problem with using the 31.8mm derailleur on the 35mm down tube? Thanks.

A 31.8 wouldn't even be close. You wouldn't even be able to run the screw through the two parts of the clamp. A photo would be helpful, but it sounds like something is sized wrong, but in your favor.

If it fits then it should work, doesn't sound like to hard of a decision to me.

Or you can just buy one of these for 10 bucks (plus shipping)
