    RSX shifter

My wife used to ride a road bike a little. It had been many years, and I am trying to get her to get back into it, and then hopefully get her to do a little mtbing as well. Well her road bike is not working. The shifter for the rear derailleur, does not work very well. It has the shimano RSX shifter and brake leaver all in one. When you move the leaver to shift, it does not work, like something, doesn't grab inside. I am quite mechanically inclined, and will eventually just take it apart, but would like some input first, I have a feeling the springs in there can eaily go flying across the room. thanks

Saturate the insides with WD-40 (Shimano Shifter Overhaul in a can)...the grease has hardened on the little pawls and springs inside the shifter. No need to take them apart. Work them shifting until everything starts working again.

Thanks, I kept at it for a while and they are working almost normally now, I think I will let it soak in a little and do it some more.
