Rohloff SLT-99 - avail no more??

So what's the deal - no more rolo chains?

    But why???
Preps to 10speed or just not feasible?
That'd be a shame - these chains are just soooo good.

I spoke with Stewart the Technical Manager at Rohloff and he said:

"The production machine requires a full recondition and so production has had to cease. The machine is a one-off custom build (because it had to fit through the door of a chicken shed when Rohloff just started out) and so the rebuild may extend into many months. Chains should be available again at the end of 2012. But not as before.

The SLT99 chains are being dropped as derailleur systems are all going 10 and 11 speed, making the high quality chains from Rohloff obsolete. Instead of jumping on the band-wagon, Rohloff will be concentrating on a Singlespeed/IGH specific SLT99 chain. Basically a very high quality/long life chain based on their MTB 8-speed version but more strongly riveted. The extra rivet strength will deny the chain its sideways flexibility (hence why not derailleur compatible) but otherwise retain all the previous SLT99 qualities."

Sounds promising but based on Rohloffs record of holding the dates promised, I expect the chain not to be available before 2014!
