Rohloff question.

How much play should there be in the shifter? I didnt see anything in the manual about it. I left quite a bit for the first ride till I found out.

I use about 1/8" play in mine so that it makes for better shifting. If you have no play in the cables at all, it makes the system too "twitchy" and you miss - shift quite a bit, I find.

The cable/twister play is easy to adjust with the shifterbox adjusters.

I run my shifter cables "snug" but not tight. I like the quicker shifting without any play. But I have my grips set up so very little of my hand is on the rotating part, and I can just reach out with my thumb and fore-finger to do a quick single shift. Since the indexing is in the hub, you can set it up any way you like.
