Campy for the win, here, as Campy's road front shifter will shift just about any front derailleur ever made that uses a cable to move the cage.
I've heard from folks both here and on RBR's forums that you can use road front derailleurs with MTB shifters and vice-versa. It's all about adjusting it just right.
Shimano rear derailleurs, except for the first Dura Ace indexing models, all have the same pull ratio for both road and mountain so you can mix and match as you please when it comes to rear shifting.
As they are about half the price of A XT or other MTB RD here - been working fine for A couple of years now.
was recomended by A freind, tired of replacing expensive MTB RD's. also - as an added bonus - they'r short cage..works for me.(AND THEY SEEM TO BE STRONGER!)
Must say though - that you must use proper shifting combinations(as mentioned above) - but you get used to it quite fst...no prob.
