Replacment for 1988 XT 730 rear derailleur

Bent and was repaired at LBS. It's still noisy, not as bad as before. Took it out for a ride and It started out pretty quiet, then got noisey after a few miles Shop owner told me he did the best he could but he didn't charge me anything for the repair. Makes me think he knows that I'll be back to get it replaced.

That's my question. It's an 88 Ritchey MTB with 18 speeds. I'm not locked into retro, but it shouldn't be something that stands out.

Looking for your suggestions. What would be the best replacement?

Shimano Deore is pretty plain. But I'd just throw a new XT on there and be happy.

It's compatible with the lever shifters?

If you have any recycleries or bike co-ops near you, go dig around in a parts bin and see if you can find an older XT derailleur, or even any oldser Shimano derailleur with a similarly sized cage.

You might just be able to replace the cage plates and lower pulley and keep that vintage cool look.

Yes, as long as you get a 9 speed derailleur. If you get a 10 speed, it won't work properly because of a different leverage ratio.

Any 9 speed MTB Shimano rear derailleur should work fine indexed
