So I am rebuilding my 1999 trek 6000 for my sister. By rebuilding i mean just getting it running for her.
I just need to replace the front crank assembly and rear cassette. The cassette i'm not too worried about as I'll just grab a cheaper 8sp cassette to replace what's there.
My issue comes with never dealing with the crankset and BB. It pedals fine so I would like to just keep the BB but I don't know how to remove the crank assembly since it looks like it takes a 1/2in socket to remove it (which i tried but it doesn't fit). I assume there's a special tool for this? Do I have a square taper BB?
Would this new crankset work if I remove the old and leave the BB?
