Cool-blue Rhythm RD Recommendation for a Shimano Altus ST-EF51 Shifter?

    Hello everyone.

I just purchased a Shimano Altus ST-EF51 7 speed shifter and it does not seem to be the same pull ratio as my current rear derailleur (SRAM)

The cable on the shifter moves approximately 3/4" and my cogset is approximately 1-1/4"

Will an Altus RD work? Should I spend a little more for something else?

This is for a cheap bike.

    Thanks for any input.

Rear derailleurs and shifters need to match manufacturer - other than a few specific cases.
Any 9 speed or under Shimano rear derailleur will work. Decide how much you want to spend and pick the derailleur.

Thanks for responding. I've been researching this as much as I can but there is a lot to sift through.

It seems that the Altus Shifter is probably a 2:1 ratio. I actually have a Shimano RD on another bike that I thought about putting on this one but that one seems like it may be a 1:1 ratio? (Measuring by the amount of cable travel) Both of these bikes had twist style shifters. Are those shifters always 1:1 ratio's?

SRAM made Shimano compatible shifters, they had names like Attack irrc. The 'X' series shifters need to be used with an X series RD
