    quick question bout derailluer

    whats the diff. between a long cage and short cage der.?

    Duh the size of the cage. The cage is the part that hangs down and has the pullys on it. A long cage can pick up more chain and is reqired for most mountain bike gearing. A short cage is used on road bikes and is thought to shift quicker

    you can also get away with a short cage if you are running a 1X9.

    the length of the cage determines how much chain slack your RD can pick up. a long cage is necessary to allow enough slack chain to run 27 speed and for suspension travel.
