    PressFit 30 Question

This is probably a dumb question, but does SRAM's PressFit 30 BB work with any BB30 crankset?

Well, given that SRAM's normal crankset requires a GXP BB I don't think its a silly question at all. I would make a guess that the BB30 bottom bracket would be different for SRAM too, but this is only an educated guess based on the fact that the method of bearing capture would be similar from SRAM GXP to BB30

The BB30 cranks work fine with PF30 also. Its the same crankset, different bottom bracket. And the method of attachment is completely different between GXP and BB30. The BB30 stuff is much better.

I think the OP's talking about attaching, say, a FSA or other brand crank to an XX BB

Press Fit 30 meets the same dimension and bearing standards as BB30...the only difference is that cups are press fit into the BB shell instead of the bearings directly.

So yes, any BB30 crankset will work with the Press Fit 30 bottom bracket.

As mentioned, it is compatible with ALL BB30 cranksets...BB30 is a set standard, SRAM has not altered it. Same bb width (68mm road, 73mm mtb), same inner diameter.

    Sorry, not true.
FSA bb30 cranks don't work with PressFit 30 because of different bearing preload method then SRAM's cranks.
I don't know what's the situation with Rotor or RaceFace bb30 cranks.

The bearing preload method only applies to their GXP cranksets, their BB30 cranksets match the standards for BB30.

    Again, no.
Here is a link where Salsa explains it:
    http://salsacycles.com/culture/build...earfish_frame/

And here is a direct quote:

Side Note: If you refer back to the pictures of the SRAM PFBB30, you will notice there is a
nice dust cover, and underneath this, a seal sitting on top of the bearing. SRAM did this to
protect the bearings, which greatly increases their useable life. Because of this detail, and
the different pre-load adjuster FSA uses, FSA BB30 cranks do not currently play nice with SRAM PFBB30 bottom brackets.

Ok, so it wasn't such a dumb question after all. Guess I'll stick with getting a SRAM or Shimano BB30 crankset for the PF bottom bracket.

I have been told that the FSA pressfit 30 BB will be available in September and will allow the use of any of their BB30 cranksets to be used in the pressfit frames.

Just FYI, I can confirm that Rotor BB30 cranks work fine with the PF30 BB

You are going to let us know how long your bearings will last after your modification, right ?

sure i'll update the modification thread. I don't see any reason they would fail prematurely. the bearings are still sealed. ask someone with phil wood mtb hubs if they have ever had bearing failure because they were too exposed.
