    Please explain, front mechs

Ok, front mechs, and rear to an extent, can someone explain to me what the actual difference is between say the SRAM x5 mech on my bike and the SRAM x9 or xtr or the equivalent shimano mechs. They all look similar to me and don't look like the upgrade would be worth it, so is it?

Usually tolerances are much tighter and different materials and manufacturing techniques are used to make the higher end components lighter.
