    Online order mistake.....

    Hi,

    I need some advice....

Except for my crank, My drivetrain is made of 9 speed slx components.

I just purchased SLX crank on eBay! the price was sooo good that I guess I didn't pay attention to al the details (the ad didn't specify if it was a 10 speed or 9 seed) and based on the rings size I geuss it is the 10 speed.

I am wondering if I can use the 10 speed crank on my 9 speed components? will there be any side-effects? or maybe I should just return the item? ( This will cost me as I do not get refund for the shipment to me and I have to pay for the return shipment)

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance

You are good. There is no difference between 9 and 10 speed chainrings.

    Thanks,

I just read there is a difference in the space between the rings between the 9 and the 10 speed?

also on the 9 speed the rings are 44-32-22T and the 10 speed is 42-32-24 does it make any difference?

once a gain thanks for the swift reply

    Online order mistake.....

You're all good. can run a shorter chain for less chain slap, but still have plenty of torque in 24 x36 gearing. And ready to upgrade next year to 2x10 or 3x10.

I ordered a Truvativ AKA 2.1 crankset and the description said it's a 9-speed crankset. I'm currently using it as a 2x10 with a 10 speed cassette, derailleur, etc without any issues. Shifting is smooth.

The chain inside width is the same between the 9 and 10 speed. It's the outside width which differ.

There is with Shimano. The cranks were the same 9 & 10 speed. As is common from all manufactures the slight difference in spacing is built into the chainrings themselves. In addition to the spacing difference the 10 spd small and big rings were 2 teeth closer to the middle ring than the 22-32-42 of the 9spd. The OP is still fine to run the 10spd crank but the chainrings are most certainly not the same.
